"Tungsten Monk." Oooh-kay. Odd name, no? I picked it a long time ago--when I was fifteen, I think--because it was just so unusual that there was a snowball's chance in hell of anybody else having it. Tungsten is, of course, an excessively hard and very rare metallic element, and a monk is . . . a monk. Robes, chanting, shaved heads, the works. Does being a tungsten monk mean that I'm a religious practitioner made out of metal? Interesting image, but no. It just means that I like to put words together for no reason whatsoever.

I'm twenty-one years old and 5'9", with medium-length ash-brown hair and gray eyes. My biggest issue is my psychological disorder--specificity unknown, but most likely genetic in nature--which causes bouts of psychotic rage and makes it difficult for me to interact with people. I've been receiving treatment for it since 2002, and it has affected the course of my life to no end. It's actually why I decided to become a novelist for a living.

My first novel is currently being shopped to publishers. My agent found one deal, for hardback publishing, but the economic meltdown pretty much torpedoed that company and now I'm looking again. I've finished most of the second book, and pieces of the third, but those are on hold for now; they're being superseded by a historical novel, which is serving as my senior thesis project.

I'm also an intermittent writer of fanfiction. I've been a fan of "Doctor Who" for almost three years now, and I recently dove into "Batman" fandom via the "The Dark Knight." This technically makes me a newbie fan, but I plead a stay of judgment based on the fact that I also read Batman comics when I was four years old.

My pet peeves include poepl who cant use teh langide k0r3ctli, people who devote themselves to a fandom simply because the characters are good-looking (plot? Anybody?), and people who make fun of Republicans for no reason. Yes, I'm a Republican, which in Chicago, Illinois is as good as having a target painted on your forehead. I try to adopt a live-and-let-live attitude towards politics, but given that I have two ex-USMC brothers, a regular old session of Army-bashing can put me in a fighting mood.

My LJ used to be devoted to my some of my fanfiction, but since I'm pretending to have aspirations of professionalism, that doesn't really fly any more. I've removed my PPC series; I'll be updating the PPC wiki with the new links.

Fandom remains important to me, of course: it's how I got my start in writing. My favorite fandoms are Doctor Who, Batman, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Final Fantasy VII, and Gates of Fire--though I haven't yet found any fanfiction for that one, thank God.
